I’m an integrative counsellor, which means I believe there isn’t just one therapeutic approach for all situations. In our work, I will draw on a number of different counselling and psychotherapy theories and approaches, using the ones that together we think will be the most suitable and beneficial for you. The main approaches I use are person-centred, existential and psychodynamic – if you would like to see what these terms mean, please visit: https://www.bacp.co.uk/about-therapy/types-of-therapy/

Whichever approach is used, my overriding aim is to allow a therapeutic relationship to form between us that is warm, caring and non-judgmental. Without this, there can be no effective or meaningful therapy. This relationship enables confidence, reassurance, openness and honesty. As a professional counsellor, my approach is to work alongside you, and help you through whatever it is that brings you to counselling. You will always be at the centre of everything we do, and the sessions will always be led by what you want to talk about.
For many of us there are times when life and relationships do not run smooth, when we feel in need of extra support and time to talk and explore the things that are causing us to struggle. These can be a whole range of issues including death, grief and bereavement, family, marriage and relationship concerns, anxiety and depression, money worries, work and career problems, loneliness, going through transitional stages, fear about the future, and ageing.
If you are finding it hard to deal with any of the above, now might be the right time to arrange to talk to a counsellor.
I have a Diploma in Integrative Counselling, and a BA (Hons) degree in history. Prior to qualifying as a counsellor, I worked as a solicitor for over 30 years and so I am familiar with the stresses and strains of a demanding career, and with the issues which can arise when changing careers. This varied background gives me a wider perspective and can add a different dimension to our relationship.
Alongside my private practice, I volunteer as a counsellor for patients and their families at the Hospice in the Weald, near Tunbridge Wells. I am also a counsellor for Wellbeing in the Arts, a charity which supports people in the Arts world.

TESTIMONIALS:
“I just wanted to email you to say you have helped me change my life. I am such a more positive person and am embracing my grief and not letting it defeat me. You know me I don’t like crying and will try to do everything in my power not to cry but after our last session I couldn’t hold back the tears and I reflected on all our sessions. You have encouraged me to be proud of myself which I am grateful for because the only person that could do that was my mum. All I can say is thank you. Thank you for listening to me and letting me tell my story and my mums”.
“Thank you for your time and understanding over the last few months. Your words have been supportive and kind and massively helped me”.
“You were a good listener, empathic and remembered the threads of our discussions from previous sessions well. You were able to draw issues out, by encouraging me to offload and, where appropriate, asking gently probing questions. When I was prone to being too hard on myself, you were able to reflect this back so we could explore whether that was appropriate. Thank you for listening to me and for changing my perspective on the issues I was facing”.
"I had my last counselling session with Scott last Wednesday and wanted to say how very helpful the sessions have been, and how I now feel fully equipped to enter a new chapter of my life, without my dear late husband. I am so grateful for the support that Scott with the Hospice gave me, I would certainly not be in the place I am today without the immense support I received."
